Software that small offices rely on, and the dates it stops being supported. Every entry links to the vendor’s own page, and the date here is the date that page states.
If we cannot find a vendor page for a date, the entry is not on this list. That is why some things you may have read about elsewhere are missing.

Microsoft Publisher (Microsoft 365)
Microsoft
- What happens
- Microsoft 365 subscribers lose access to Publisher. It disappears from the Office apps on your computer, and no Microsoft program on that computer opens .pub files any more. LibreOffice can open .pub files, with mixed results — see the conversion guide.
- Who it affects
- Any office on a Microsoft 365 subscription that still makes a bulletin, newsletter, program or flyer in Publisher.
Microsoft Publisher (one-time purchase)
Microsoft
- What happens
- Support ends for the perpetual version of Publisher, alongside Office LTSC 2021 and Consumer Office 2021. Publisher keeps opening on those machines, but gets no more fixes.
- Who it affects
- Offices that bought Office 2021 outright rather than subscribing.
Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (consumer)
Microsoft
- What happens
- The consumer Extended Security Updates programme ends. Windows 10 PCs enrolled in it stop receiving security updates, and there is nothing left to renew.
- Who it affects
- Home and small-office users who enrolled a Windows 10 PC to keep it patched past October 2025.

Already happened
QuickBooks Desktop 2023
Intuit
- What happens
- QuickBooks Desktop 2023 was discontinued. The program still opens and your file stays on your computer, but payroll, card payments, bank feeds, emailing forms and live support stopped, and there are no more security updates.
- Who it affects
- Small offices, churches and nonprofits running QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Mac Plus or Enterprise 23.0.

Exchange Server 2016 and 2019
Microsoft
- What happens
- End of support for in-house Exchange mail servers from 2016 and 2019. Mail keeps flowing, but the server stops receiving security patches, which matters for a machine exposed to the internet.
- Who it affects
- Organisations that still run their own mail server instead of using a hosted mailbox.

Office 2016 and Office 2019
Microsoft
- What happens
- End of support for the one-time-purchase Office 2016 and 2019, including their Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher. The programs still open; they get no security fixes, bug fixes or support, and there are no extended security updates for Office.
- Who it affects
- Offices that bought Office outright in 2016 or 2019 rather than subscribing to Microsoft 365.
Windows 10
Microsoft
- What happens
- Windows 10 reached end of support. The computer keeps working, but there are no more security updates, feature updates or help from Microsoft.
- Who it affects
- Every office or home PC still running Windows 10 and not enrolled in Extended Security Updates.

Pocket
Mozilla
- What happens
- The Pocket apps and website shut down. Saved articles could be exported until 8 October 2025, after which Mozilla deleted them. Annual subscriptions were refunded automatically.
- Who it affects
- Anyone who used Pocket to save articles to read later, including through the button in Firefox.

Skype
Microsoft
- What happens
- Skype stopped working. Microsoft asks people to sign in to the free version of Microsoft Teams with the same details, which carries over chats and contacts. Microsoft says Skype data is deleted from the service after 1 April 2026.
- Who it affects
- Anyone who used free or paid Skype for calls. Skype for Business is a different product and is not covered by this notice.
